Programs and readiness assessment

Acting Vice-Chancellor Professor Felicia Moh announced the decision in a statement in Abakaliki over the weekend. The authorization covers Nursing Science, Medical Laboratory Science, Public Health, Computer Science and Cybersecurity.

Before granting approval, the NUC assessed whether the university had the infrastructure, academic facilities, equipment and personnel needed for the courses, Moh said. She led the principal officers and other key university officials who welcomed the verification team.

The assessment is a required step under the NUC's licensing framework for newly approved private universities. As outlined in July 2026 by NUC Executive Secretary Professor Abdullahi Yusufu Ribadu, institutions must complete resource verification before starting their approved programs. The framework also provides for a three-year provisional license and a five-year assignment to a mentoring institution.

A new private university in Ebonyi

SchoolingNG's listing of the NUC's Nigerian University System register identifies Euston as a private university established in 2026. The register currently contains 182 private universities nationwide. Ebonyi State's other NUC-listed private institution is Evangel University, Akaeze, established in 2012.

Moh said Euston had made substantial investments in facilities and staff to support teaching, learning and research. She thanked the NUC for conducting the review and pledged that the university would continue to meet the regulator's quality standards.

She also credited Chancellor Lady Eunice Egwu with investing in the institution and working to widen access to quality higher education and opportunities for young people in Ebonyi and beyond. Egwu is married to former Ebonyi State Governor Sam Egwu.

Moh praised the NUC leadership's reforms and its efforts to strengthen the quality and relevance of university education in Nigeria.

Admissions for the 2026/2027 session

Euston described the authorization as a major step in its development, allowing academic activities to begin in the five programs. The university encouraged prospective students and their parents or guardians to consider its admission opportunities for 2026/2027, while warning that places were limited.

Under the NUC framework, newly approved private universities must conduct admissions exclusively through the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB). The JAMB admission window for the 2026/2027 session remains open until November 30, 2026.
