Officers search the area
Police received reports that someone had been shot near Florin Road's 1700 block and responded around 8:45 p.m. The site lies along the Meadowview-Golf Course Terrace neighborhood boundary, just south of Sacramento Executive Airport.
Officers were searching the surrounding area for a suspect, the department said.
Sacramento's shooting totals
The department's Crime Analysis Unit counted 254 shooting reports and 56 people shot from January through August 2026. Its full-year totals for 2025 were 476 shooting reports and 131 people shot. Those figures cover eight months and 12 months, respectively, rather than equivalent periods.
In April 2026, Police Chief Kathy Lester reported that homicides had declined 22% and shootings 25% over the preceding four years. Police seized more than 4,200 guns during that period, she said. Lester also pointed to the 131 people shot in 2025.
California homicide statistics
Statewide, California recorded a homicide rate of 3.5 per 100,000 people in 2025. That was the lowest rate since the state began collecting the data in 1966, according to California Attorney General's office statistics released in July 2026 and reported by CalMatters.
The same statistics showed that California's homicide clearance rate rose to 79% in 2025.
