Government recognition

The shipbuilder announced the award on Nov. 2. The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy hosted the event, organized by the Korea Productivity Center, at KBS Hall in Seoul's Yeongdeungpo district on Oct. 29, 2026.

According to Seoul Economic Daily, the government credited HD Hyundai Samho with leadership in the eco-friendly vessel market and efforts to support a sustainable industrial ecosystem.

Yonhap News Agency reported that the ministry presented 81 government awards at the ceremony. The sustainable management category recognized 24 companies and institutions, including presidential citation recipients Naver and Kolmar Korea and prime minister's citation recipients LG Energy Solution and HD Hyundai Samho. This year's event combined the 50th National Productivity Convention with the sustainable management merit awards.

Dual-fuel vessels and shipyard systems

Deliveries of LNG and methanol dual-fuel ships have helped HD Hyundai Samho strengthen its position in the global market for eco-friendly vessels. Around Oct. 16, 2026, it delivered a 13,000-TEU methanol dual-fuel container ship to French carrier CMA CGM, according to the shipbuilding trade outlet New Vessels. The outlet describes the vessel as the world's first lashing-free container ship, departing from conventional container-securing practice.

The company's environmental work also extends to its worksites, where it has installed solar power facilities, a wastewater recycling system and an integrated energy control center.

Safety measures and shared growth

HD Hyundai Samho has established an integrated safety control center and introduced an intelligent safety management system as part of its shop-floor approach to preventing accidents. The award also recognized its supplier partnership programs and community contributions.

"This award is the fruit of work by all our employees on eco-friendly technology development, intelligent safety management and shared growth," an HD Hyundai Samho official said. "As Korea's leading eco-friendly shipbuilder, we will further strengthen our ESG management."
