Specifications and shipping restrictions
The firearm, identified by SKU ECOM00648219, has a black finish and an 18.5-inch barrel. Guns.com lists a capacity of 6 rounds, despite the absence of a magazine.
The item cannot be shipped to Alaska, California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Massachusetts or New Jersey. The listing also includes a California Proposition 65 warning about chemicals known to the state to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm.
Model background and differences between offerings
Modern Firearms identifies the EM-12B as a Chinese-made shotgun from Chongqing Jianshe Industries, marketed under the EMEI brand. Internationally, it is also sold as the EMEI EMS-121; U.S. designations include EM-12B and JT-12.
Its design follows the Russian Saiga-12 closely enough to accept some of the same magazines, according to Modern Firearms. A principal difference is the EM-12B's longer receiver, which reaches farther behind the pistol grip. Typical U.S.-spec versions have an aluminum alloy M-LOK handguard and a fixed plastic buttstock.
The gas-operated action is based on the Kalashnikov AK system, with a rotating bolt and a manually adjustable, four-position gas regulator. Other features include a 3-inch chamber and a manual bolt hold-open device. Modern Firearms gives the standard detachable box magazine capacity as 5 rounds, rather than the 6 rounds stated in the Guns.com listing. The listing does not explain that discrepancy.
Atlantic Firearms describes a separate EM-12B offering supplied with two 5-round magazines and three choke tubes, along with a one-year warranty from importer IARMS LLC. Its specifications include a chrome-lined, 18.5-inch barrel and a 39.5-inch overall length. Those package contents and warranty details should not be read as terms of the used Guns.com listing, which specifies no magazine.
Atlantic Firearms also says the model performs best with high-brass loads and recommends at least 50 rounds of that ammunition before using light loads. The retailer says the magazine well prevents the use of drum magazines.
Jianshe's manufacturing history
The manufacturer, Chongqing Jianshe Industry (Group) Co., Ltd., is a state-owned company headquartered in Chongqing under China South Industries Group, also known as China Ordnance Equipment Group.
Baidu Baike traces the company's origins to the Hubei Arsenal, established by Zhang Zhidong in 1889. The arsenal became the Hanyang Arsenal in 1914 and moved to Chongqing in 1938. According to the Internet Movie Firearms Database, the company was also known as Factory 296, a producer of Chinese copies of Soviet weapons, notably the Type 56 carbine based on the Soviet SKS.
The Internet Movie Firearms Database also identifies Jianshe as the owner of the Emei brand name in the West. Originally associated with Jianshe's precision sporting rifles and air rifles, the name is used by Jianshe, directly or through Norinco and CSGC, on some small arms exported to Western countries.
According to Baidu Baike, Jianshe completed a reorganization and stock-market listing with Yunnan Xiyi in 2023 on the Shenzhen exchange, using the stock abbreviation "Jianshe Industry" and code 002265. As of 2025, the company reported nearly 8 billion yuan in total assets, nearly 5,000 employees across five provinces and municipalities, and seven production bases.
