Family keeps an evening connection

Maighlin told Hendrix that his father was in heaven, explaining that his paternal grandmother, Colette, was there too. Colette died in 2020. Maighlin and Hyron have two young sons.

Hyron's sister, Rencia, has grown closer to Maighlin and the boys since his death. The 52-year-old told YOU that she calls them every evening at 6 p.m., continuing a family ritual: Hyron had called his mother each evening and, after her death, began calling Rencia instead.

Maighlin intends to return to the United States to be near her parents. Rencia wants the boys to stay connected with their relatives in South Africa and plans to obtain a passport so she can visit them.

Maighlin's mother, Meghan, has traveled to South Africa with the Lions covering her airfare, according to YOU.

A career across South Africa and England

Andrews was 31 when he died. Born Hyron Diego Andrews on July 6, 1995, in Paarl, South Africa, he played lock, or second row, and was 2.03 meters tall and weighed 108 kilograms.

His senior career began with the Durban-based Sharks, where he played from 2016 through 2024. He then spent 2024–2026 with England's Sale Sharks, making 45 appearances before joining the Johannesburg Lions for the 2026–27 season.

Earlier, Andrews earned selection as a Junior Springbok for the 2015 World Rugby Under-20 Championship. South Africa took third place in that tournament, defeating France 31–18 in the playoff.

Former teammates, supporters and the Lions have paid tribute to him. The Lions played their Champions Cup match against La Rochelle in his honor on October 17, 2026. European Professional Club Rugby observed a moment of silence at every Champions Cup and Challenge Cup game that weekend, while Sale Sharks honored Andrews at their October 17 match against Glasgow Warriors.

Return from France remains unresolved

Andrews died in France from an aortic dissection, which involves a tear in the inner layer of the body's main artery. The Lions released the autopsy findings on October 21 and said there was not yet a timetable for bringing his body back to South Africa.

Maighlin is still awaiting information about his return. Three services are scheduled for November 2026, with events planned in Paarl and Durban.
