The Baltimore Ravens confirmed Friday they are aware of wide receiver Rashod Bateman's arrest in June following a domestic violence incident in Walton County, Georgia, located approximately 45 miles east of Atlanta. The team has notified the NFL, and the league has opened a review of the case.
According to court documents, Bateman was arrested on June 6 after allegedly smashing the driver's side window of a vehicle being driven by the mother of his child, with their 3-month-old infant inside. The incident reportedly occurred around 6 a.m., and shattered glass caused multiple small lacerations to the victim's face.
Bateman, a 26-year-old Georgia native who was selected by Baltimore in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft out of the University of Minnesota, turned himself in to the Walton County sheriff's office the same day. A court later granted his request to lift a no-contact order after he indicated the victim wanted to have contact with him.
Team and league response
"We notified the league office and have been cooperating throughout the process. As this is a pending legal matter, we will not have further comment."
NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy confirmed the case is under review by the league office.
Under the NFL's Personal Conduct Policy, the league can place players on the Commissioner Exempt List during investigations of domestic violence incidents. The policy's domestic violence provisions, collectively bargained with the NFL Players Association, typically involve a baseline six-game suspension for first-time offenders, though discipline can be imposed even without criminal conviction.
With the Ravens scheduled to open their 2026 regular season in early September, the NFL's review timeline could directly impact Bateman's availability for the start of the season.

"It is unfortunate that a personal family situation has been taken completely out of context for sensational reasons. We will let the court process play out and the facts will come out at that time."
Last year, Bateman signed a three-year, $37 million contract extension with Baltimore. The deal came after his career-best 2023 season, when he caught 32 passes for 756 yards and nine touchdowns. However, his production declined sharply in 2025, dropping to a career-low 224 yards with two touchdowns.
The incident marks another conduct challenge for the Ravens organization, which faced heightened scrutiny following the high-profile 2014 domestic violence case involving former running back Ray Rice. That case led to significant changes in NFL domestic violence policies across the league.
Walton County authorities did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the case.
