MIDCPNIFTY 29 Sep 26 Options Research Recommendation
A closed derivative trading recommendation for MIDCPNIFTY options expiring on September 29, 2026, featured a call option strategy with an entry price of ₹133, targeting ₹200 with a stop-loss set at ₹104. The recommendation, classified under FUTIDX and Options research types, was executed on the National Stock Exchange, the world's largest options market by contracts traded, where index options are cash-settled and benefit from high liquidity.
The call was closed on September 16, 2026, at 2:19 pm, after 13 days of activity. Market data showed the Nifty 50 index, which represents the float-weighted average of 50 of the largest Indian companies listed on the National Stock Exchange with a market capitalization of ₹194.2 lakh crore as of July 2026, was trading around the 23,200-23,300 levels in mid-September after falling to a three-month low. The index posted a year-to-date decline of approximately 13.67% through September 9, 2026.
Sector Performance Divergence
Market activity on the day revealed stark sector divergence. Insurance stocks emerged as top performers, with HDFC Life Insurance gaining 2.73% to close at ₹530.20 and SBI Life Insurance advancing 2.65% to ₹1,697.90. The strong performance reflects India's insurance sector growth potential, as the country's insurance penetration stands at 4.2% of GDP, less than half the global average of 9%.
Banking and financial services stocks also posted gains, with State Bank of India rising 2.42% to ₹991.40 and Axis Bank climbing 1.48% to ₹1,241. ITC gained 2.38% to ₹264.15, while consumer discretionary stock Trent advanced 1.45% to ₹2,769.70.
IT Sector Under Pressure
Information technology stocks faced significant selling pressure, with the sector recording India's worst performance for 2026. The Nifty IT index was down nearly 22% year-to-date as of early September 2026. Tata Consultancy Services led the declines with a 2.76% drop to ₹2,188.80, followed by Wipro down 1.83% to ₹166.89, Infosys declining 1.58% to ₹1,060, and Tech Mahindra falling 1.14% to ₹1,558.
The IT sector weakness stemmed from subdued technology spending commentary from management teams, higher global interest rates, inflation, and geopolitical uncertainty affecting client discretionary spending. Wipro faced additional pressure following NSE Indices Limited's announcement of its removal from the Nifty50 Value 20 index effective September 30, 2026, to be replaced by Dr. Reddy's Laboratories, a move that typically triggers selling from passive funds tracking the index.
Industrial and Auto Sector Performance
Industrial stocks displayed mixed results, with JSW Steel gaining 1.60% to ₹1,248.90 and Hindalco Industries advancing 1.46% to ₹972.70, while Larsen & Toubro declined 1.12% to ₹3,807.70 and NTPC fell 0.76% to ₹327.
The automotive sector showed varied performance, with Bajaj Auto rising 1.48% to ₹11,593, while Maruti Suzuki dropped 0.53% to ₹12,166 and Tata Motors declined 0.86% to ₹301. InterGlobe Aviation fell 0.89% to ₹4,733.50, and Bajaj Finserv decreased 1.00% to ₹1,837.
Market flows during this period reflected competing forces, with foreign institutional investors selling approximately ₹583 crore of Indian equities on September 10, 2026, while domestic investors purchased about ₹1,509 crore, demonstrating domestic support as a stabilizing force for the market amid foreign outflows.
