Earnings pressure technology stocks

Intel and Amazon released their third-quarter results after the previous day's close. Intel's roughly 29% decline was its largest one-day loss on record, while Amazon fell about 1.4%, according to Reuters and Bloomberg reports. The Nasdaq 100 suffered its worst decline since June.

Concerns about AI spending also reshaped the ranking of the largest companies. Bloomberg reported that Apple overtook Nvidia as the world's most valuable company as investors turned to the perceived safety of the iPhone maker.

The declines left technology stocks facing a difficult end to October. With only a few hours of monthly trading remaining, the Nasdaq Composite was down about 5.6%, putting it on track for its largest monthly loss since March 2025, according to Investopedia. The S&P 500 was down about 1% for October, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average had gained about 1.8%.

Futures and cash indexes fall

In the Barron's snapshot, Nasdaq futures dropped 3.45% to 28,543.00. S&P 500 futures declined 1.80% to 7,614.50, and Dow futures lost 1.11% to 51,928.00. SPY stood at $755.72, down 1.7729%, while QQQ was at $690.49, down 3.4739%.

The page's cash-index readings showed the Dow at 51,770.31, a loss of 572.25 points, or 1.09%. The S&P 500 fell 140.32 points, or 1.82%, to 7,580.07, and the Nasdaq Composite dropped 747.73 points, or 2.86%, to 25,437.00.

The Russell 2000 was down 1.66% at 2,811.84. The index listed as B400 stood at 1,600.04, down 1.38%.

Gold slides; bitcoin faces pressure after Binance hack

Gold futures traded near $3,890 an ounce on Oct. 30, down about 3.5% and at their lowest level since October 2025, Investopedia reported. The decline came amid persistent inflation concerns and expectations of Federal Reserve interest-rate increases. Gold had lost more than a quarter of its value since reaching a record closing price above $5,300 in January 2026. The Barron's snapshot listed gold at $3,884.90, down 3.63%.

Bitcoin traded around $76,500 in reports from Oct. 30, below the previous day's high near $82,000. Broad risk aversion and a record hack at Binance, the world's largest cryptocurrency exchange, weighed on the market. The hack reportedly affected more than $6 billion and led Binance to suspend withdrawals, according to Investopedia and Reuters. Separately, the Barron's snapshot showed bitcoin at $77,189.01, up 0.55%.

Oil readings also differed between the reports and the snapshot. Investopedia reported that WTI crude rose about 2% to roughly $104 a barrel on Oct. 30. Bloomberg linked heightened market anxiety to speculation that the U.S. might resume military strikes against Iran. Barron's listed WTI at $103.90, down 0.21%, and Brent at $113.40, down 0.03%. Its dollar index reading was 101.96, down 0.07%.
