A new way to get more value from your everyday spending

Malaysian motorists now have a new way to extract more value from their daily routines through Setel Savers, a membership programme that builds rewards around existing spending habits rather than requiring lifestyle changes.

Launched by Setel, the mobility app introduced in 2018 as Malaysia's first platform to integrate directly with fuel pumps, the programme extends benefits across the company's growing ecosystem of services. With over four million users nationwide, Setel has evolved from a fuelling app into a broader mobility and lifestyle platform covering parking, electric vehicle charging, car care, payments and shopping.

Setel Savers operates on a straightforward principle: members earn additional Mesra Rewards points, cashback and selected benefits through eligible transactions they already make via the app. The programme costs RM4.90 per month after a one-month free trial, and works alongside Setel's existing tiered rewards structure where users can earn up to 3x Mesra Rewards points on fuel and selected purchases depending on their membership level.

Rewards tied to real spending patterns

The membership unlocks bonus Mesra Rewards points through eligible fuel milestones, DuitNow QR payments, non-fuel spending, Kedai Mesra purchases and EV charging. Eligible car care and mobility transactions can generate cashback. Members can accumulate more than 1,100 Mesra Rewards points and up to RM60 cashback across available benefits, subject to terms and eligibility.

Mesra Rewards points convert to currency at 100 points per RM1, meaning earned points can offset future transactions within the Setel ecosystem. The programme is designed to complement rather than replace existing Setel campaigns, creating layered opportunities for rewards.

Setel started with a simple need, making fuelling easier, but the way people use Setel has grown as their needs have grown. Today, Setel can be part of much more of the journey, from fuelling and parking to car care, EV charging, payments and everyday spending.

Setel chief executive officer Abdullah Ayman Awaluddin emphasised the programme's flexibility. What matters is that Setel can be useful in the moments that are relevant to you. Rather than asking people to change their habits or spend more just to earn rewards, we want to recognise the things they are already doing with Setel and give them more value from those moments.

Expanding beyond mobility

While Setel's foundation lies in mobility services, the app now supports broader financial and lifestyle needs. DuitNow QR payment integration connects users to Malaysia's rapidly growing digital payment infrastructure, which processed three billion transactions in 2025 and ranks second globally in QR code adoption behind China. The nationwide network exceeds three million registered touchpoints.

For families, the Setel Family Wallet feature allows account holders to manage and share funds with family members for their app spending whilst continuing to earn rewards from eligible transactions. Students can benefit from rewards on everyday purchases including meals, shopping and payments alongside occasional fuel top-ups.

The programme arrives as Malaysia's electric vehicle market experiences significant growth. EV sales surged 106% year-on-year in the first half of 2026, reaching 26,192 units, with registrations more than doubling in the first quarter alone. Malaysia deployed over 1,700 DC fast chargers by early 2026, exceeding its 1,500-unit target. Setel's EV charging integration positions the platform to serve this expanding segment.

Regulatory framework and user protections

Setel operates under supervision and regulation by Bank Negara Malaysia as a non-bank electronic money issuer. Earlier this year, the company addressed compliance matters after Bank Negara Malaysia imposed a RM637,500 administrative monetary penalty in April 2026 for delays in updating sanctions databases and conducting proper screening. Setel paid the penalty in May 2026 and implemented remediation measures. Customer funds were not affected by the compliance issues.

The Setel Savers programme requires no minimum spending thresholds or complex qualification criteria. Members simply use the parts of the Setel ecosystem relevant to their lives, whether that centres on commuting, household management, student life or electric vehicle ownership.

First-time subscribers can explore the programme through a one-month free trial before deciding whether the RM4.90 monthly fee delivers sufficient value based on their usage patterns. Membership benefits, eligible transactions, campaigns and rewards remain subject to applicable terms and conditions.
